1. Core Philosophy
This Gallery application (developed by Orinzent) is designed from the ground up to be an offline-first, performance-first tool. Unlike cloud-connected galleries, this app does not upload your files, analyze them in the cloud, or require accounts.
The app leverages native Kotlin modules directly on your device to scan and index files, and renders the user interface using Flutter. This ensures maximum speeds with absolute privacy.
"Offline-first means your photos, videos, album structures, and edits stay exclusively on your device. We have no backend servers and no access to your media libraries."
2. Device Permissions
To deliver a smooth browsing experience and permit basic file modifications (like cropping, deleting, or sorting into albums), the app requires standard device permissions. Below is an exhaustive breakdown of why we request them:
3. Data & Storage
We believe in absolute data minimization. We do not maintain any personal databases or analytics profiles about you.
Here is what happens to your data while using Gallery:
- Photos & Videos: Stored strictly in your device's filesystem (internal memory or SD card). The app reads files via the native MediaStore API and caches temporary thumbnails locally to keep scroll performance smooth.
- App Configuration & Structure: Custom albums, favorite markings, local settings, and image edit histories are kept inside a secure, lightweight local database (Isar) located inside the app's sandboxed storage.
- Lifespan: Local databases are entirely removed from your device the moment you uninstall the app. We do not maintain backups in any secondary locations.
4. Local Security
Since your files and parameters never leave your smartphone or tablet, the security of your media mirrors the physical security of your device. Here is what we recommend to maximize your privacy:
- Keep your operating system updated with the latest security patches.
- Implement secure screen locks (PIN, password, or biometric verification).
- Enable full disk encryption on your device if available.
5. Third-Party Services
We do not integrate third-party ad networks, telemetry trackers, or profiling tools that compromise your device privacy. We do not sell, trade, or share any diagnostic or filesystem data with external firms.
If you choose to use built-in system sharing features (e.g., sending a photo to WhatsApp, Instagram, or Email), those operations are handled entirely by your operating system's sharing intents, governed by the privacy guidelines of those respective apps.
6. Common Questions
Does this app track my location data?
No. While your photos might contain embedded EXIF metadata (which includes coordinates where the photo was taken), the Gallery app only reads this data locally to sort and group photos. We never track your live location or send geo-coordinates anywhere.
Are my media files compressed or modified without permission?
No. Your media files are kept in their original quality. When the app generates previews, it creates temporary cache files on-device to enable fast scroll performance, leaving the original source files completely untouched.
What happens if I delete a photo inside the app?
When you delete a file inside the app, the system prompts you to confirm. Once confirmed, it deletes the file locally from your storage. The action is permanent and immediate.
